"Now that fall is here and Provo is alive and brimming with youthful energy again, it's time to get back on the dance floor! There's some important info in here, including about a discount, so please read it!
Q: What is blues dancing? Is that all you guys do?
A: Blues dancing is a family of historically African-American dance movements, traditionally danced to blues music. Many steps were adapted as music evolved throughout the 20th century, but the core of the dance remains as a "pulse" and basic two-step movement.
At Bedrock Rhythm & Blues we aim to acknowledge and respect the roots of blues dancing, while also allowing room for personal expression and incorporation of other dance movements, which is what many people refer to as "fusion".
Q: What if I've never done this before?
A: No need to fear! We will have a short introductory lesson at 9:30 p.m. General dancing will start at 10:00 p.m. and go to 1:00 a.m.
Q: What kind of music should I expect?
A: A mix of traditional blues music as well as rhythmic modern music, or what some people call fusion music. The music is generally slow and moody, with a strong "heartbeat", which gives the dance its life. Our DJs for our reopening will be Paul Crenshaw and one other DJ TBA.
Q: How much is it?
A: Normally admission is $7 at the door, or one punch on our loyalty cards. But for our reopening, we will have a two-for-the-price-of-one discount! If you bring a friend, they either get in for free, or you each pay $3.50. So spread the word! (Note: If you have a punch card, please choose one discount or the other.)
Q: Does this happen often?
A: Yes! We took a break over the summer to figure some stuff out, but we are planning on having dances at least two Fridays a month in the near future, and working up to every Friday.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: Nope! As long as you respect others and dance safely, you are welcome, whether you are 16 or 96. Although we don't allow alcohol or other mood-altering substances, we may occasionally have snacks :)
Q: What is the location like?
A: Our new location is at Third Space Studios on Center Street in downtown Provo. It is a fantastic space that is eclectic, homey, and welcoming of diverse groups of people and events. There is cool artwork, soft couches, and mood lighting.
